A Walk in Athens – Hadrian’s Library, Areopagus Hill, Monastiraki square
As I always say what better to explore any place to actually set out on foot. After our visit to the Athens we decided to take an evening stroll around the Acropolis mountain. We passed a locality with a lot of restaurants, a Coptic church with views of Temple of Hephaestus and the Acropolis atop the mountain. We then reached the Thissio metro station where we had a lot of street vendors selling local handmade stuff.
We walked across the metro station to take the Adrianou road on the right. This road has a lot of Tourist Restaurants serving Greek and European Delicacies. Also you will find a lot of street shops selling everything from clothes to souvenirs.

At the end of the street we were at Hadrian’s Library – created by Roman Emperor Hadrian as part of Roman Emperor Hadrian’s grand re-building plan for the city. The library was the largest in Athens and with its columned façade and high surrounding walls, built to impress.
This area is littered with history and excavations including the Romaniki Agora etc. We then headed right and headed straight up towards the hill on Acroplis. We stumbled upon a beautiful viewpoint – Areopagus Hill which gives a stunning view over the city as the sun sets.
We then walked on a stone laden street which runs on the circumference of the Acropolis hill to reach our Hotel. Along the way we met some really friendly Athenians who were very interested to talk with us and know about us. Though Greece is undergoing a turmoil at the moment the spirits of the people is commendable.

On our last day in Athens we decided to explore the Plaka, one of the oldest neighbourhood in Athens. It has now taken a tourist turn with its restaurants and shops. Its just a 5 mins walk from the Acropolis and quite a happening place in the evening.
Few minutes of stroll across crowded shopping streets and we were at the Monastiraki square – is a flea market neighbourhood in the old town of Athens and the place to bargain shop.
Then we took a long walk to the Athens central market passing through bustling streets on a busy weekday.
On our way back we did peep into the Acropolis museum as well, though dint go and explore it further.
