This was my first Dune Bashing experience – booked by mom and dad as a surprise. And it was indeed one! I have always wanted to get a taste of this thrill – Not more of a dessert person but worth a try. You cant in this part of the world and not do a Desert Safari in Qatar. Visit Qatar with us.

We were picked up from our residence in Doha in a 4×4 vehicle and drove on the tarmac up to Messaid – where we drove off-road and deflated the tyres – That’s the sign that we were almost at the dunes and the action is set to begin.
We then entered the desert and after few minutes of drive, we could see the dunes. To start with, they were on the smaller side – basking golden in the evening sun. And then the thrill of the dune bashing started – it was simply an adrenaline rush. The smaller dunes were left far back and now these were giants and our skilled driver was driving up and down on these and for a second I did think that the vehicle is going to topple and its the end of the story.
At the edge of these dunes – it seems like a dead drop and you expect the driver to stop – but does he? NO! It’s an amazing thrill but not for very faint hearted. They do stop at some scenic points seeing over the inland sea with desert on one side leading to the sea, and in the horizon you can see the coast of Saudi Arabia.
The destination is the campsite in the desert which leads to the sea, an amazing backdrop to the camp. It was quite deserted as it was weekday so we relaxed on the beach and stretched our legs. We had our own tent and a nice dinner was also organised which was the icing on the cake.
After dinner we made our way through the desert – Barren flat desert – Didn’t want more dunes especially after dinner.
This was a memory to cherish. I wouldn’t say I would want to do it again as I am terrified with rides and alike but yeah I will of course remember it.
