Bus from Yangshou to Guilin Airport – Cheapest option from Yangshou to Guilin Airport
After a superb day at the Li River Cruise we landed at the Yangshou Pier. A quick walk and we were at the West Street sipping a Heineken and reflecting back on the memories garnered gazing at the beautiful landscape of the river cruise.
The next challenge for us was to make our way to the Guilin airport as we had an evening flight to Shanghai. Of course we could take the taxi and spend 400+ Yuan- but that’s not us! So what is the cheapest option from Yangshou to Guilin Airport. There are frequent airport shuttles – Cheap and effective. Also the information available for the western tourists using Google search is quite limited and hence the rationale behind writing this article.
Again having done the research, we decided to go for the public mode of transport. There is a shuttle bus leaving Yangshou every 2 hours direct to Guilin Airport. The timings are – Yangshuo to Airport – 07:00, 09:00, 11:30, 13:00, 14:30, 16:00, 17:30, 19:00. So you need to time it to perfection else take a taxi which would be quite expensive.
The biggest challenge was to make our way to the bus stop. We had read quite few conflicting notes some suggesting it’s the North bus terminal and some suggesting there is a new terminal for these airport shuttles. It’s actually the Yangshou South bus terminal towards which you need to be heading.
Walk to the end of West Street – the bus terminal is a good 20 min’s walk from here and uphill as well. So with a heavy backpack that’s out of question. There are local buses plying to the bus terminal from the road opposite but not worth the hassle so we thought of taking a taxi. It’s very difficult to hail a taxi on the street here as there aren’t so many. Luckily many locals speak good English here and we asked a local shopkeeper to book a taxi for us using her mobile app and she was more than happy to help us and we paid her the cab fare. So 10 Yuan and 10 min’s later we were at the South bus terminal – Absolutely shambolic place.
Luckily, the boards here are in English. Walk to the counter and ask for tickets to Guilin airport – its 50RMB per person. The Security scan machines are all broken and no one bothers so now walk behind the counter for the seating area. On the right hand side is the dusty ground with buses parked-walk out and check the boards for “Yangshou to Guilin airport”. If you aren’t sure ask someone around at this point. The bus is on a first come first serve basis with just 35 seats – so arrive at least 45 min’s before the bus departs.
This is an A/C bus with seats allocated on the ticket. So it was a very comfortable 1.5 hrs nonstop journey to the Guilin airport. Apart from saving few bucks it was a memorable experience travelling the way the locals do rather than the way tourists do.The Bus from Yangshou to Guilin Airport is definitely the cheapest option from Yangshou to Guilin Airport.
