Catch flights, not feelingsUnknown
After a great start to our Swiss Adventure, visiting Vevey enroute to Grachen and then onwards to Zermatt, we were really looking forward to the next leg at one of the most Instagrammed village – Lauterbrunnen.
Day 3 of our trip we had a change in plan as the weather was forecasted to be wet for the following week while we were based at Interlaken. So, instead of driving to Gruyeres – we decided to cut through the Alps while the sun was shining and head towards Lauterbrunnen. The drive was equally good, and the highlight was getting the car inside a tunnel train at Lötschberg for 15+ K.M Addy was super excited
Finally we arrived at the Postcard village of Lauterbrunnen. I must say Switzerland is blessed and so were we – The sun was out and shining, and the beautiful village was the cherry on top. Glistening misty waterfall in the background , rocky steep cliffs, green meadows with the Swiss cows and the ding-dongs of the cowbells, and the beautiful wooden chalets – we were awestruck right from the first look of this place.
We had initially thought of getting bikes here to ride across the valley but then we realised that the valley walk/hike wasn’t long enough and can easily covered on foot. Also, they don’t allow bikes with baby carriages in the cable car at Stechelberg. So, we set out on foot exploring the valley, also we had to make up for the lost hiking opportunity at Zermatt. We walked away from the Lauterbrunnen centre, towards the mountains, following the signs for the waterfalls. The first big waterfall for the day is right up there – Staubbachfall. You can take a detour here to see behind the waterfall.

We continued further on the trail – this is a flat trail – initially its crowded but then it narrows down, and the crowds disappear. We were having quite a leisurely stroll today while Addy was having a lot of fun picking up the flowers, trying to feed the cows and chewing our brains out with the array of questions she had
Further down the main trail there is a small, marked trail on the left for Trümmelbachfalle. This waterfall is located inside a cave and under 4’s aren’t allowed here. Very quickly we were at the entrance gate which costs 11 CHF for Adults and 4 CHF for kids. There is a funicular which then takes you up to the top, you can alternatively walk up the stairs as well. This is a definite must go – the series of Ten rushing waterfalls are amazing – at the same time very intimidating.
We walked down, had a little break at the café before heading by the main road back to the main trail. We did see quite few adrenaline junkies jumping off the cliffs – God bless them. The hike now continues on a smaller trail crossing a stream before arriving at Stechelberg. We took the funicular here to Murren via Gimmelwald – a little settlement where we stretched our legs while taking in the views which lay ahead
On the way back we took the funicular down to Stechelberg and then the Swiss postbus back to Lauterbrunnen. Walked about in the little town for few mins and picked up some groceries and Swiss chocolate for our drive back. It was an amazing day out experiencing a postcard village and the valley hike was well worth it.
Finally made our way towards Interlaken – our pitstop for the week ahead exploring Switzerland. We were staying at a tiny village called – Erlenbach im Simmental, 30 mins drive from all the hustle bustle of Interlaken. We were staying with a family with kids the same age as Addy and they had a plethora of stuff to play from a huge outdoor trampoline, tree house etc. Now Addy dint want to leave the house!
