Stuff your eyes with wonder, live as if you’d drop dead in ten seconds. See the world. It’s more fantastic than any dream made or paid for in factories.Ray Bradbury
Mauritius bowls you over with its beaches of white sand and sapphire water, tropical forests and myriad flowers, the ghost of the extinct Dodo still alive in souvenirs, and a history that has resulted in the synthesis of many cultures. The Dutch, French, English and even pirates traversed this African island on the Indian Ocean. If a vision of crystal clear water, white beaches and palms spring to mind when you hear about this island, you are right. There are many beautiful beaches and the islands, Ile Aux Cerfs and Rodrigues, are also quite close. But Mauritius is more than that, Travel Mauritius with us and explore Ile Aux Cerf , Underwater sea walk at Belle Mare and much more. We booked a package deal of 6 nights stay at beautiful resort right next to the beach. .
As we arrived at the airport, we were greeted by a representative of the hotel who drove us to the hotel. The views along the drive were simply mesmerising. At the hotel, we were welcomed by the ever smiling staff with a flower garland made locally and local fresh juice. We had a half board with hotel, however, at the check in, the staff said us they had upgraded us to full board as it was New Year with no extra charges at all. Sweet isn’t it!
As our trip was a holiday package, we had an itinerary to be followed. After a lovely filling breakfast, we had to visit the Ile Aux Cerf for a full day excursion. The driver came on time and we headed to Ile Aux Cerf by coach. In the coach, we met three other Indian couples as well who were also honeymooning like us, not a surprise as Mauritius is one of go to Honeymoon destination.
Before reaching Ile Aux Cerf, we were driven to the Belle Mare beach where our first ever Underwater Sea Walk was waiting for us. We both are non-swimmers and the thought of going under water was scary, however, the guide assured us that we do no need to know swimming for this activity. To reach the platform situated inside the lagoon from the Belle Mare beach, we had to use a motorboat. Upon arrival to the platform we received a pre departure briefing on the gear, the local marine life, on safety procedures and on the underwater walking trail.
Then, with the help of the guide we went off board the platform to start our underwater sea walk adventure. This was the best experience we ever had in our lives. It was a fascinating underwater walk on the ocean bed for around an hour, and we witnessed the magnificent marine life of the Eastern coast of Mauritius, the beautiful fauna, corals, and a wide variety of fish, all in their natural habitat.
The best part was our entire experience for the Underwater Sea Walk was captured in digital photography by the Guide and the pictures were given to us at no additional charge.
We did some other water sport activities such as parasailing, tube rides, jet skiing etc. which offered breath taking views of the beautiful lagoon and beach of East Coast of Mauritius.
After lunch, we had our speed boat trip along the lagoon proceeding all the way to the Grand River South-East Waterfalls. The Grand South – Eastern River is the longest river of Mauritius. The speed boat sailed along the waterfalls’ canal for the beautiful view of the Grand River South East Waterfalls.
Once there, we were amazed by the fabulous view of the waterfalls and the wild vegetation on the river banks; sometimes if you are lucky you can also see some monkeys jumping and playing on the trees just beside the waterfalls.
After the visit to the waterfalls, we headed to the Ile aux Cerfs Island where you can see the swaying palm trees and the pure white beaches framed by the vivid turquoise waters. Here, we met an Indian couple – Pavan/Prachi who had come on their honeymoon just like us who have now become friends for life.
The best way to experience this island is go to on stroll or swimming in the beautiful waters or by just relaxing on the beach. The island offers a lot of water sports activities which you can avail over there; however, we were exhausted by now to take in any more activities for the day. We just relaxed on the beach taking in the beautiful views of the sunset before we were driven back to the hotel.
