You don’t have to be rich to travel well.Eugene Fodor
This was my first visit to explore Qatar as a married man, with my partner Amoli. I had metamorphosed since my first visit to Doha way back in 1993 and the city had evolved with me. This was more family time than an actual trip – it was time to meet my mom and dad. So this was a more relaxed trip in which I didn’t have anything to plan as it was home away from home. Visit Qatar with us.
We actually settled in –meeting family and friends. It was really a pleasure meeting everyone after ages. And then the get together kicked in – one after the other and they kept coming until we had to say a “No”. Mom and dad had planned one as well as it was our first time in Doha since our wedding.

After lapping in all the food at the get together it was time to see Doha – the city very close to my heart and will always be. Of course the city has evolved and changed over time. I still remember the time when dad used to drop me at corniche in the evening and Doha Corniche is a place I wanted to go first. This is a waterfront promenade along the bay of Doha which provides stunning views of the City skyline.
The next most happening thing in Doha is the Pearl Qatar – a man-made island (going with the trend) off the west bay coast lined with marinas, hotels, residential towers, brand boutiques and lined with cafes and restaurants along the water promenade.
Of course the city is lined with skyscrapers, malls and all amenities of modern living, Qatar has embraced the new booming prosperity and the luxuries of air conditioned malls with top brands but they still have the Souq Waqif – the social heart of Doha. This is the place to look for the national Qatari dress, including the beautifully embroidered bukhnoq (girl’s head covering), spices, perfumes and oud.
I would surely want to visit Qatar again some time. This is one city which I have seen evolve with me and need to see where it heads eventually.
