Explore. Dream. Discover.Mark Twain
After an awesome few days at El Calafate, Chile, and Ushuaia, we landed back in Buenos Aires, and we had our flight back to London the very next day. Li wanted to explore Tigre Delta – this time more so than myself.
Ever since Addy was born, we haven’t used public transports while traveling – earlier it was coz of the pandemic and then coz she was still an Infant. Now Addy had turned 4 and we decided to go back to the good old days of doing more walks and exploring a city using the public transports. We headed towards Retiro train station downtown.
Tip
Another pro tip for Argentina is the Language – very less people speak English – so unless u know Spanish – use a translation app.
The station looks very much Victorian and was majestic. We had a tough time finding the ticket office and which line we need to take. Finally, having found the ticket office we booked return tickets to Tigre – which i.e. the final stop on the aptly named – Tigre line. And the best bit the train fare for a 55 mins return ride was just 850 pesos.
The platform was massive with kiosks selling Argentinian beef sandwiches – Choripan – though I wanted to take it – was running short of time as our train just pulled in. Quickly hopped into the train and off we went.
Tip
Another Pro Tip – Mosquitos. The city has a major problem with mosquitos – though we never encountered this at our hotel – the train was like a breeding hub for them, and you see everyone annoyed with the same. Carry Insect Repellents
55 mins ride and we were the final stop of Tigre. Just cross the Steet and you would see a big McDonalds with a tourist office and many kiosks selling the famous boat tours around the Delta. There is no doubt this town is a tourist hub – with all the famous eatery chains and restaurants lining the streets. It was almost late evening by now – so picked tickets for the boat ride and were promptly put in a boat – be sure to ask for a round trip as there are many boats which are just the main mode of transportations for people and goods. You don’t want to end up in a different island on the Delta
The boat trip around the delta was for an hour and good way to swap the busy streets of Buenos Aires. The Wetlands provided a unique insight into a different side of the city where the economy is driven through the canals and its boats. While it was our last attraction for our majestic Argentina trip, I wouldn’t recommend it if you are short of time.
We took the train back and of course grabbed the famous M (McDonalds) for our journey back. A happy kid is a happy trip!! And now it was time to make ourselves happy as well and we wanted to have our final meal at a Parilla – A classic Argentine Eatery serving all the matters the most – Meat! The slow cooked steaks were the best we ever had and I’m sure I would never enjoy a steak again in the UK!
