To my mind, the greatest reward and luxury of travel is to be able to experience everyday things as if for the first time, to be in a position in which almost nothing is so familiar it is taken for granted.Bill Bryson
Dubbed the Loveliest castle in the world – Leeds Castle is just an hour and half drive from London, 5 miles southeast of Maidstone. Join us to visit Leeds Castle – A perfect day trip from London.
Almost 900 years of history is what you see at the Leeds castle. In the 13th century, it came into the hands of King Edward I, for whom it became a favorite residence; in the 16th century, Henry VIII used it as a residence for his first wife, Catherine of Aragon. Leeds Castle sits over three islands in an artificial lake. It became part of the Queen of England’s dower – the settlement widowed queens received upon the death of their husbands.
Sprawling over more than 500 acres, it’s got more than the lovely castle – beautiful parklands, gardens, the maze/grotto, thrilling falconry displays, punting on the moat, adventure playgrounds and more!

If a day trip isn’t possible then a half day trip from London is to visit the famous Chislehurst Caves.
The location has been centric to many movies and small screen shows including Doctor Who and also a live concert by Sir Cliff Richards. And is it goes with any other castle, Leeds Castle has its own haunting stories – but not of any person but of a Big Black Dog whose appearance is seen as an omen of death. Had no such experience except for some black Chihuahuas.

I love it here, my grandfather was evacuated to Leeds Castle in WW2 and was a choir boy at Leeds church. He took us there many years ago and showed us that behind the organ, his initials are still carved on a piece of timber! So glad to have seen it myself.
Ohh Thats really nice to know…
