Louvre Museum Main attractions – Meet Mona Lisa
I am definitely not a great fan of museums and definitely not an art lover. However, if someone gives me an opportunity to see the world-famous Venus di Milo, Mona Lisa, Winged Victory of Samothrace all under one roof – how could I say a NO. Furthermore, my liking for Da Vinci Code (more the novel and less the movie) and its associated inquisitiveness brings me to the world’s second largest museum – The Louvre Museum. It houses close to 35k artifacts from pre-historic times to the 21st century over an area of 72725 square metres. The Louvre is the world’s second most visited museum after the Palace Museum in China.
- Opening Times: 9AM – 6PM (except Tue); Night opening till 9:45 on Wed and Fri
- Address: Musée du Louvre, 75058 Paris – France
- Metro line: Louvre Rivoli and Palais Royal Musée du Louvre, both on Line 1 (yellow), Chatelet Les Halles on line RER A. (Explore Paris Metro)
- Online Tickets: Click here 17 Euro – Online tickets are booked for a specific day and a specific time slot but they are usually sold out but you can still get them at the counters.
The entrance to the museum is through the famous Glass Pyramid in the Cour Napolena – The Courtyard of Napoleon – again quite prominent in Da Vinci Code. There is usually quite a long queue here and if you are not so lucky, you might be dampened with few showers. However, the line does move quickly and we enter the pyramid to reach the Napoleon hall. The hall holds the ticket office and the ticket vending machines, they are quite a lot of them here with no significant queues. Be sure to pick up a map at the information desk as you begin your journey into the Louvre.

Now, as with every large museum, attempting to take in the entire museum in a day is simply senseless. Even if you are a pro-athlete with a photographic memory of every route inside the palace, this is still impossible. As we had limited time inside the museum and also in Paris, we had to rely on a Visitor Trail which takes you through all the famous and must see objects within the museum with clear navigation instructions. This trail will take approx. 4 hours to finish and then you can extend it further based on the time available to you to see more artefacts. Please leave a comment below with your email id and I will be happy to send the same to you.
A hidden gem is Paris is Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, commonly known as Sacre-coeur, Montmartre.
