Back home in UK we have always admired the countryside and now that we were in Buenos Aires and having explored the city we were keen to travel beyond in the Argentinian Pampas and experience the Gaucho(cowboy) life on a traditional Estancia(ranch). We were eagerly looking forward to the Gaucho day trip from Buenos Aires.
The Previous days rains meant that most of the pampas were flooded and we were lucky to be upgraded to an Estancia called La Mimosa. Another early start of the day and we were heading towards the Estancia in a minivan with folks from different parts of the world. We heard stories about the Antarctic cruises, the drake-shake and more! We stopped for a quick break before ending in a nice little village. As with any other city, the countryside is very quiet and desolate – more like a ghost town.
We drove further and finally arrived a La Mimosa Estancia. On Arrival we were greeted with wine, soft drinks, and the infamous Empanadas. We had enough Empanadas by now! There were performances by the folks’ dancers which were good. The Place was lush green with an old rustic house at the centre which was still being used by the owners, beautiful flowers all around, peacocks roaming the greens and more chickens and goats

These Estancia were heavily reliant on raising cattle for beef and this has shifted by the demand of Soyabeans by China – which meant these historic Estancias have shifted to Tourism as a means to survive. We were then served some tradition Gaucho games on a horse back which was nice to see – though Addy was whining about all the horse poo around, the files, the mud and more – Wild one minute and delicate darling the next.
I could smell the food being cooked on a Asado (slow cooked grill) in the open and my mouth was already watering. Finally, we were served food with various cuts of Beef, sausages, chicken and more – very tender, very soft and wine to wash it down all with performances by the folklore dancers
We then took a horse carriage ride and waved goodbye to a great experience at the Gaucho and the Pampas.
