Once done visiting the beautiful city of Saint Petersburg – it was time to get into the heart of Russia –to its capital Moscow. And what better way than to get a Train from Saint Petersburg to Moscow aka The Sapsan.
Again the best option based on time and budget was to go for Train travel. There are 2 options with Train travel –the regular trains which take approx. 8 hours which usually run overnight with sleeper facilities and the Sapsan bullet trains which take half the time to reach Moscow. So the choice was very clear –Sapsan Trains. These trains reach a maximum speed of 250km/hr and cover the 650km to Moscow in 3hr 50 mins!
At Saint Petersburg the Train departs from Moskovsky Rail Terminal(S-Peter-GL). This is NOT the Moskovoskaya Metro stop. This is actually on the main street of the city Nevsky prospect and is connected to the metro station Ploshad Vosstaniya – red line/Mayakovskaya-Green line. It’s almost a 3.5KM walk from the hermitage museum or you can take the metro from Nevisky Prospekt and take the green line to Mayakovskaya/Ploshad Vosstaniya(just 1 stop)– takes 10 mins. Alternatively you can take a bus from Nevski Ave stop – Bus No.5 or 22 -30 roubles per person. Either the conductor on bus will take ticket or pay the driver, please keep exact change.
Nevesky Prospekt to Train to Moscow station
Try being at the station atleast 15-20 mins before departure. There is a separate reception/room for Sapsan passengers and all the bags are scanned and then you can board the train – where you will be asked for the ticket printout and passport by the ticket officer.
Station Address – 85, Nevsky av., St. Petersburg,Russia
Among all my train travels the Sapsan stands amongst the best Trains – very clean, comfortable and fast. We opted for the Economy+. There is usually not a huge fare difference between the Economy and Economy+ –with the plus option getting you a cold snack, which was worth it.

The train speeds up through some awesome scenery before arriving at —Oktaybrskaya station(MOSKVA OKT) . This is the official name of Leningradsky railway station which is located on the Square of Three Train Stations and the nearest metro will be Komsomolskaya (circle line-5).
